The shopping mall opened on 20 January 1984 and was developed by Wuthelam Group together with the Japanese retailer Daimaru. The complex combined a seven-level mall of about 254,000 sq ft with a hotel tower and a serviced apartment tower. The mall's address was 177 River Valley Road, and the 177B address on this listing belonged to the serviced residence block.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Liang Court no longer exists. The mall closed on 1 April 2020 and the complex was demolished in 2021. The site has been redeveloped by City Developments Limited (CDL) and CapitaLand as an integrated project made up of the CanningHill Piers condominium, the CanningHill Square retail podium, a Moxy hotel and a Somerset serviced residence. The new buildings use Clarke Quay addresses. Daimaru was the anchor department store until 2003, the Meidi-Ya supermarket then took over part of its space, and Books Kinokuniya ran a store here until April 2019.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>The hotel tower opened in November 1984 as Hotel New Otani and was renamed Novotel Clarke Quay in 2004.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>Ownership changed several times. Wuthelam sold the mall to Pidemco Land in 1999, it passed to the Asia Retail Management Fund in 2006, and a CDL and CapitaLand joint venture bought it in March 2019.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>The redevelopment was announced in November 2019, with Ascott Residence Trust joining the consortium to own the new serviced residence.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>The replacement project was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and includes a 48-storey tower, far taller than anything on the old site.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003C\u002Ful>\u003Ch3>Nearby\u003C\u002Fh3>\u003Cp>Fort Canning MRT (Downtown Line) is next to the site, and the new development includes an underpass to the station. Clarke Quay MRT (North East Line) is about eight minutes away on foot across the river. Fort Canning Park rises directly behind the site, and the restored warehouses of Clarke Quay are next door.
