Teck Whye, one of the first HDB developments since 1980 is located in the northwestern part of Singapore is a sub-urban area filled with HDB flats, condominiums and other recreational facilities. There are also several industrial buildings around. It is also a part of Choa Chu Kang New Town. It is part of the Choa Chu Kang Grc.
Choa Chu Kang is named after the previous Chua Chu Kang Village which is currently occupied by National Shooting Centre. Choa Chu Kang is derived from the Teochew words KangChu. In the 19th century, owners of the gambier and pepper plantations along the Choa Chu Kang Rivers were called “KangChu” ; “Kang means river and “chu” means owner. “Choa “ is the clan name of the headmen.
Transportation: Modes of transportation are made easy via Choa Chu Kang Mrt station, Teck Whye Lrt station and the numerous bus services available. Major expressway like KJE, BKE andPIE will allow vehicle owners easy access to many parts of Singapore. Driving to Orchard shopping district will take you about 20-25 minutes.

Recreational facilities in the neighborhood include Choa Chu Kang Park, Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Choa Chu Kang Swimming Complex, Tembusu Park and Limbang Park.
Hotels around Tiong Bahru include Nostalgia Hotel, The Cape Inn, Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore, Link Hotel, Wangz Hotel, Hotel 81 Osaka, Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel and Furama Riverfront.

Shopping Malls: Yew Tee Square, Yew Tee Point, Lot One, Junction 10, Keat Hong Shopping Centre, Choa Chu Kang Centre, Teck Whye Shopping Centre, Sunshine Place and Limbang Shopping Centre. Driving to Orchard shopping district will take you about 15 to 20 minutes. Or you can head across the causeway to Malaysia for other retail options. In Choa Chu Kang there are also retail shops, supermarkets, provision shops, salons and many more to cater for all your needs.
The nearest supermarkets are Prime Supermarket at 142 Teck Whye Lane and NTUC Fairprice at 31Choa Chu Kang Way.

Did you know?

1. Kampong Berih , Chua Chu Kang Village and Kampong Belimbing were demolished from 1993 to 1998. It was then replaced by the military plot (cemetery North and Jalan Bahar) and National Shooting Association.

2. The original name Chua Chu Kang is still retained in the cemetery area.

3. Back in 2002, participants of Reality show The Amazing Race came to a HDB flat in Choa Chu Kang to collect a clue from Gurmit Singh who posed as Phua Chu Kang.

4. The last wild tiger was killed in Choa Chu Kang area back in 1930s.
