Mosquitoes around your condo: safe checks and useful reports
General guidance for Singapore condo residents. Follow current official advice and confirm arrangements for your own building.
Start with reachable containers
Aedes mosquitoes can breed in small amounts of clean stagnant water. NEA recommends checking for breeding places at least weekly. Look at accessible pots, vases, pails and unused containers in your home; sightings alone do not identify where mosquitoes are breeding.
Build a repeatable routine
NEA's checklist recommends emptying and scrubbing plant saucers and changing vase water every other day. Scrub the vase and wash the roots rather than merely topping up water. Store unused pails upside down under shelter and loosen hardened soil that allows water to collect. Clear accessible fallen leaves and stagnant water in your own drains or garden, and check an air cooler weekly.
Keep the check at floor level
Do not climb onto roofs or aircon ledges, lift heavy drain covers, enter service rooms or lean over railings. Ask management to arrange checks of shared or inaccessible places. Pest-control chemicals and estate infrastructure should be handled by the responsible team.
Report observations, not blame
Give management the block, floor, exact location and time. Describe water remaining in a container or repeated mosquito activity; include a photo from a safe permitted position. Ask whether it can be inspected and what action is planned. NEA's condominium guidance specifically asks for breeding and potential habitats to be reported to management.
Treatment does not replace prevention
Fogging cannot remove the containers where later mosquitoes develop. Follow treatment notices. NEA advises remaining indoors, closing windows and covering food and utensils during outdoor fogging. Check current dengue information and myENV for alerts. Screens may help, but confirm estate rules before changing exterior fittings.
