Haze at home: cleaner indoor air without sealing the room indefinitely
General guidance for Singapore condo residents. Follow current official advice and confirm arrangements for your own building.

Use current official readings
Check haze.gov.sg or myENV and the accompanying health advice. NEA distinguishes immediate air-quality decisions from longer-exposure planning; do not treat a PM2.5 reading as a PSI value. This guide supplies no live reading or prediction for your home.
Reduce entry, then reassess ventilation
NEA's indoor guidance recommends closing windows and doors when outdoor air is poor and reopening them when it improves. A closed crowded room can accumulate heat, carbon dioxide and indoor pollutants. Keep reassessing comfort and outdoor conditions rather than leaving the room sealed indefinitely.
Choose and position the air cleaner properly
NEA recommends effective filtration such as HEPA and a unit suited to the actual room. Ask for its smoke Clean Air Delivery Rate, with units stated, and follow placement and replacement instructions. Keep intake and outlet clear. Leakiness and obstructions affect performance; a bedroom device should not be assumed to clean a whole open-plan apartment.
Keep cooling and pollution control separate
Fans and air-conditioning can provide cooling and circulation without proving that fine particles are filtered. Check instructions if a system brings in unfiltered outside air. Avoid smoking and candles indoors, and remove settled dust with damp wiping or mopping. A purifier does not provide fresh outdoor air.
Use health advice and ask management useful questions
MOH advises people who feel unwell, especially vulnerable groups and people with chronic heart or lung conditions, to seek medical advice. Follow the current advisory and your clinician's plan. Ask management about shared-room access or reported smoke entry without assuming a designated clean-air shelter exists. Severe breathlessness or another medical emergency needs urgent help.
