About 50 Foch Road
50 Foch Road is a strata-titled shophouse with apartments above, at 50 Foch Road, Singapore 209273, in District 8 (Little India, Farrer Park). OneMap does not give the building its own name. Instead it tags the address as part of the Petain Road/Tyrwhitt Road Conservation Area, which indicates that the shophouse falls within conservation boundaries. The owners are organised as MCST Plan No. 2783, a comparatively recent plan number for this neighbourhood.
Interesting facts
Foch Road honours Marshal Ferdinand Foch of France. He and Petain are the two French commanders among the mostly British names chosen for the streets here in 1926.
The nearby terrace houses on Petain Road are among the best-known conserved buildings in the district, noted for their decorative tiles.
Rows of early 20th-century shophouses are the reason the wider Jalan Besar area was gazetted for conservation.
Nearby
Bendemeer station on the Downtown Line and Lavender station on the East West Line are the closest MRT stops. Foch Road and neighbouring Hamilton Road have a number of cafes and eating houses, and Jalan Besar Stadium is a few minutes away on Tyrwhitt Road.
