The open ground north of here was named Farrer Park in 1935, after a president of the Municipal Commission. It had served as the racecourse until 1933.
In 2022 the government announced that the Farrer Park site, about 10 hectares, would be redeveloped with around 1,600 public flats, a new sports centre and a 1.2-hectare central green.

Little India MRT (North East and Downtown Lines) is about five minutes' walk, with Farrer Park MRT (North East Line) a little further north. Tekka Centre is the main hawker centre and wet market for the area. Serangoon Road's shops, Mustafa Centre and City Square Mall are all reachable on foot. Farrer Park Primary School is the nearest primary school.
