Other roads close by honour wartime commanders, among them Kitchener, Beatty, Foch and Petain. A municipal decision in 1926 led to many of these names.
The Jalan Besar district was low-lying swamp between the Rochor and Kallang rivers before it was filled and built over. This is a fact about the area, not the building.
The ornate terrace houses on nearby Petain Road, known for their decorative tiles, are protected under conservation.

Farrer Park MRT (North East Line) is about five minutes on foot. Bendemeer and Jalan Besar stations on the Downtown Line are roughly 10 minutes away. City Square Mall and Mustafa Centre are the main shopping stops. Berseh Food Centre and the eateries along Jalan Besar and Kitchener Road cover daily meals. Jalan Besar Stadium, opened in 1929, and its public swimming complex are close. Farrer Park Primary School is the nearest primary school.
