Buying an appliance online? Check the exact SAFETY Mark registration

Before buying

A seller’s photograph or familiar brand is a starting point, not proof that the appliance you receive is registered. Before buying a Controlled Good for use in Singapore, check its exact model in the official register.

Start with the category

The Consumer Product Safety Office regulates 33 categories of household electrical and gas products and accessories. Kettles, rice cookers and certain fans are among them. Check the official definitions for the product you want. Items outside the Controlled Goods categories do not require this mark; an absent mark alone does not establish that every electrical product is non-compliant.

Match the model, not just the photograph

Ask the seller for the full model number and a clear photograph of its SAFETY Mark. Open the official Register of Registered Controlled Goods yourself. Search by model or the eight-digit registration number, then compare the returned details with the advertised variant. For a new purchase, check that registration is valid.

Check the purchase and delivery

Confirm the plug and voltage suit Singapore. Check manufacturer warranty, customer support, returns, seller feedback and current safety recalls. When it arrives, leave the item unplugged while comparing its model and markings with your order. Keep the receipt and listing details. If the registration or delivered variant does not match, pause use and ask the seller and CPSO to clarify; switching it on is not a compliance test.

If something changes later

CPSO distinguishes a new sale from an appliance bought before its registration expired: later expiry alone does not make that earlier purchase non-compliant. Continue to follow instructions and check recalls. Report suspected unregistered or falsely marked Controlled Goods to CPSO with factual model, seller, link and photo evidence. Refund and after-sales disputes belong with the seller or marketplace; CPSO’s FAQ points consumers to CASE for dispute resolution.

Building arrangements

Arrange any bulky delivery or installation access with management separately. Product registration does not settle your estate’s access procedures.
