  • The street is generally said to be named after Teo Hong, a Hokkien building contractor of Lam Ann (Nan'an) origin who took on government and Singapore Harbour Board contracts from around 1900. Heritage researchers suggest the name reflects family property holdings in the area.

  • The hill the street sits on has had several names. Sources record it as Dickenson's Hill and Bukit Padre before it became Bukit Pasoh, from the Malay word for the earthenware pots once made in kilns here.
