About CanningHill Square

CanningHill Square is the retail and dining podium of the CanningHill integrated development at 9 Clarke Quay, Singapore 179886, in District 6 (City Hall, Clarke Quay). It stands on the site of the former Liang Court mall, between River Valley Road and the Singapore River. The project is a joint venture between City Developments Limited (CDL) and CapitaLand Development and was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group. The land is held on a 99-year lease from 17 September 2021.

The podium sits at the base of four towers: the two CanningHill Piers residential blocks, the Moxy Singapore Clarke Quay hotel and a Somerset serviced residence. The project website describes it as three levels of food, beverage and retail space. It is planned as a link between Fort Canning Hill, Fort Canning MRT station and the riverside promenade at Clarke Quay. Little has been published about its tenant mix, so none is listed here.

Interesting facts

  • It replaces Liang Court, which traded from 1984 to 2020 and was known for Japanese names such as Daimaru, Meidi-Ya and Kinokuniya.

  • The name joins the site's two neighbours: Fort Canning Hill behind and the river piers in front.

Nearby

Fort Canning MRT (Downtown Line) connects to the development by underpass. Clarke Quay MRT (North East Line) is around eight minutes on foot over the river. The conserved warehouses of Clarke Quay are next door, Fort Canning Park is across River Valley Road, and Robertson Quay lies upstream along the river promenade. River taxis also call at Clarke Quay.
