About Funan

Funan is an integrated development at 107 and 109 North Bridge Road in the Civic District, within District 6 (City Hall, Clarke Quay). It combines a six-level shopping mall, two office blocks and the lyf Funan Singapore co-living serviced residence, which faces Hill Street. The complex has a gross floor area of about 889,000 sq ft. It was developed by CapitaLand for CapitaLand Mall Trust, now part of CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust, and designed by Woods Bagot. The mall began trading on 28 June 2019 and held its official opening on 27 December 2019.

The present building replaced the older Funan Centre, which opened on the same site in January 1985. That mall became the city's best-known computer and electronics centre and closed on 30 June 2016 for a redevelopment costing about $560 million. Today the mall mixes technology retailers with fitness, food, craft and entertainment, including a cinema and a theatre run by the Wild Rice company.

Interesting facts

  • The old mall was renamed Funan The IT Mall in 1997 and Funan DigitaLife Mall in 2005, reflecting its cluster of IT shops.

  • An indoor cycling lane of about 200 metres runs through the ground floor, with showers and lockers for riders.

  • The atrium is built around the Tree of Life, a 25-metre timber and steel structure of stacked pods used by small brands and workshops.

  • There is a climbing wall inside the mall, and the roof has an urban farm and a dining garden.

  • The project won a ULI Global Award for Excellence in 2021.

Nearby

City Hall MRT (North-South and East-West lines) is linked by an underground pedestrian walkway that opened in December 2021, about five minutes on foot. Clarke Quay MRT (North East Line) and Fort Canning MRT (Downtown Line) are each around ten minutes away. Neighbours include the Old Hill Street Police Station, the Central Fire Station, the former Supreme Court and City Hall (now National Gallery Singapore), Peninsula Plaza and The Adelphi. Fort Canning Park and the Singapore River are both a short walk.
