About Hong Leong Building

Hong Leong Building is an office tower at 16 Raffles Quay, Singapore 048581, in postal District 1. It was completed in the mid-1970s (most sources give 1976) as the flagship building of the Hong Leong Group. The tower is about 158 metres tall with around 45 storeys, plus car park levels and a basement. Wikipedia credits Swan and Maclaren as the architect.

The building stands at the junction of Raffles Quay, Cross Street, Robinson Road and Telegraph Street, between the older Raffles Place area and the newer Marina Bay offices. Tenants include financial firms, professional services, shipping and trading companies and some diplomatic missions. The basement has a cluster of eateries that is busy at lunchtime. Leasing agents report that a major round of upgrading works was completed in 2025, and the building holds a BCA Green Mark Platinum rating.

  • According to the Hong Leong Group, the tower was one of the tallest commercial developments in the Central Business District when it was completed in the 1970s.

  • In March 2007, about 5,000 people left the building after tremors from two earthquakes in Sumatra were felt on the upper floors.

Telok Ayer Street, with Thian Hock Keng Temple and rows of conserved shophouses, is a short walk inland, and the Marina Bay waterfront is about 10 minutes away on foot.
