Interesting facts
The Municipal Commission approved the building of the street, from North Bridge Road to Beach Road, in June 1926. It was officially named on 2 December 1927.
It honours Seah Liang Seah, second son of pioneer Seah Eu Chin, a pepper and gambier merchant and pineapple canner who sat on both the Legislative and Municipal Councils.
The name was contested in 1927 by a landlord who owned 38 properties on the street. The naming committee held that public service, not the size of a property holding, should decide street names.
NLB Infopedia records that the street received conservation status in 2009 and that 32 shophouse units had been restored by September 2014.

Bugis MRT (East-West and Downtown Lines) is about a 3 to 5-minute walk, and Esplanade MRT (Circle Line) is under 10 minutes away. Bugis Junction is across North Bridge Road. Guoco Midtown, DUO and the National Library are close by, and the street is lined with steamboat, dessert and cafe outlets. Schools in the wider area include Stamford Primary School and the School of the Arts.
