About Marina One Retail (The Heart)

The Heart is the retail podium of Marina One, a large mixed-use development at 5 Straits View in Marina Bay, postal District 1. Marina One was developed by M+S Pte Ltd, a 60:40 joint venture between Malaysia's Khazanah Nasional and Singapore's Temasek. It was designed by ingenhoven architects of Germany, with landscape design by Gustafson Porter + Bowman. Construction began in 2012 and the development was officially opened in January 2018.

The Heart offers about 140,000 sq ft of shops, restaurants, a supermarket, a food court and a fitness club. It wraps around the Green Heart, a multi-level tropical garden at the centre of the site. The shops mainly serve workers in the two 30-storey office towers, residents of the two 34-storey Marina One Residences towers and the wider Marina Bay district.

Interesting facts

  • Marina One grew out of a 2010 land swap agreement between Singapore and Malaysia, under which former Malayan Railway land was exchanged for parcels in Marina South and Ophir-Rochor. M+S was set up to develop those parcels.

  • The Green Heart covers about 65,000 sq ft, with stepped gardens, a waterfall and winding paths. The four towers are shaped to channel breezes through it.

  • The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat named Marina One Best Tall Building for Asia and Australasia in 2018.

  • The development holds LEED Platinum and BCA Green Mark Platinum ratings, and won a FIABCI World Gold award for sustainable development in 2020.

Marina Bay MRT (North-South, Circle and Thomson-East Coast lines) is about 3 minutes away via an underground link. Downtown MRT (Downtown Line) is around 5 minutes, and Shenton Way MRT (Thomson-East Coast Line) is also close. Neighbours include Asia Square, Marina Bay Financial Centre and IOI Central Boulevard Towers. Lau Pa Sat is roughly 8 minutes on foot. Marina Station Square, Central Linear Park and the Marina Bay waterfront promenade are nearby, with Gardens by the Bay a longer walk east.
