Nankin Row is a cluster of conserved three-storey shophouses at 3 Pickering Street, in Singapore's postal District 1. It lies between Pickering Street and the pedestrianised Nankin Street, beside Great Eastern Centre and on the edge of the Raffles Place office district. Interesting facts
Nankin Street is one of Singapore's oldest streets. NLB notes that it appears on the 1822 Raffles Town Plan and was spelt Nankeen Street on Coleman's map of 1836.
In the 19th century the street was associated with tinsmiths. From the 1930s samsui women lodged on Upper Nankin Street, and their dark clothing gave rise to the nickname black cloth street.
The Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church traces its beginnings to Upper Nankin Street in 1889.
