About New Futura

New Futura is a freehold luxury condominium at 14, 16 and 18 Leonie Hill Road, Singapore 239193, 239198 and 239199, in District 9 (Orchard, Cairnhill, River Valley). City Developments Limited (CDL) completed it in 2017. The project has 124 apartments in two 36-storey towers, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) of the United States with local firm ADDP Architects. Units range from two-bedroom apartments to five-bedroom penthouses.

The towers are recognisable by their curved balconies and flowing aluminium fins, which also act as sunshades. CDL opened sales in 2018, after completion, and later reported the project fully sold. More than 50 facilities are spread over several levels, including sky terraces.

Interesting facts

  • The name honours Futura, the tower that stood here before. Designed by Timothy Seow and finished in the mid-1970s, it had 69 flats and three penthouses over 27 storeys and was one of Singapore's first condominiums.

  • The old Futura was known for oval living-room pods, bronze-tinted glazing and lifts that opened directly into each apartment, a concept its architect called bungalows in the air.

  • A CDL subsidiary bought Futura in a 2006 collective sale for $287.3 million. The original tower was eventually demolished around 2012.

  • New Futura won a 2020 Urban Land Institute Asia Pacific Award for Excellence. CDL noted it was the only residential project among that year's 13 winners.

Orchard MRT (North-South and Thomson-East Coast lines) and Somerset MRT (North-South Line) are each roughly ten minutes away on foot via Grange Road. Great World MRT (Thomson-East Coast Line) is to the south. Ngee Ann City, ION Orchard and Great World mall are the main shopping options. River Valley Primary School is within about 1 km.
