About Queensway Tower

Queensway Tower is the residential and office tower that rises above Queensway Shopping Centre at 1 Queensway, Singapore 149053, at the junction of Queensway and Alexandra Road in District 3 (Queenstown, Tiong Bahru). The complex is a strata-titled mixed development: a four-storey shopping podium with a basement car park, office space, and a 13-storey apartment tower. Property portals record 78 freehold apartments in the tower. Sources differ on the date. The National Heritage Board's Roots site says the centre opened in 1974, while property listings and other references give 1975 to 1976 for completion.

The tower is still standing and in use. Most people know the address for the mall below, which is popularly called Singapore's sports mall because of its many shops selling sports shoes, jerseys and equipment, alongside tailors, printers and engravers.

  • Roots describes Queensway Shopping Centre as one of Singapore's first multi-purpose shopping complexes, alongside Golden Mile and Katong.

  • The original plans provided for more than 200 shops, a large emporium, an exhibition hall, a coffee house and a night club.

Queenstown MRT station (East-West Line) is about 800 metres away, roughly a 10 to 12 minute walk. Redhill MRT is further east. IKEA Alexandra and Anchorpoint are directly across the junction, and Alexandra Hospital is a short walk down Alexandra Road. Alexandra Village Food Centre and the ABC Brickworks Market and Food Centre are the nearest hawker centres. The Rail Corridor passes just west of Queensway. Schools in the area include Queensway Secondary School and Queenstown Primary School.
