About Robertson Edge

  • Tong Watt Road is named after Tan Tong Watt (1861 to 1907), a Hokkien landowner who began his career as a clerk with the trading firm Behn Meyer. The road was laid out on his land and carries his name at his own request, according to published street-name studies.

  • Parts of Tong Watt Road fall within the River Valley Conservation Area, which the Urban Redevelopment Authority gazetted on 25 October 1991. The area is mainly three-storey shophouses in the Late and Transitional styles.

  • URA notes that these shophouses once served the owners and workers of the godowns and warehouses along the river.

  • The 999-year lease dating from 1841 is shared with several neighbouring plots, including The Wharf Residence on the same road.

Fort Canning MRT (Downtown Line) is roughly a 10-minute walk, and Great World MRT (Thomson-East Coast Line) is about 12 to 15 minutes away. UE Square, Robertson Walk and the Mohamed Sultan Road restaurants are around the corner. Hong San See temple, a national monument, is close by. Fort Canning Park and the Singapore River promenade are within walking distance. River Valley Primary School is in the neighbourhood.
