About SGX Centre

SGX Centre is a pair of office towers at 2 Shenton Way (SGX Centre 1) and 4 Shenton Way (SGX Centre 2) in the Downtown Core, postal District 1. Centre 1 was completed in 2000 and Centre 2 in 2001. The developer was United Overseas Bank (UOB). The design is by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates of New York with local firm Architects 61. The towers share a podium and rise about 172 m to the roof, or 187 m including the spires. Sources give the height as 29 or 30 storeys. The land is 99-year leasehold from November 1995.

The complex is best known as the home of Singapore Exchange (SGX), the national stock and derivatives exchange. Ownership is strata-titled. The buildings are managed by MCST 2675.

Interesting facts

  • In 2007 SGX sold its own space in the complex to UOB for $271 million. The deal covered about 169,500 sq ft, including levels 19 to 29 of Centre 1 and two podium levels. SGX stayed on as a tenant under a leaseback.

  • CNBC Asia has broadcast from a studio on the second floor of Centre 1 since 2010.

  • The site sits where the older Raffles Place business district meets the newer downtown at Marina Bay.

Downtown MRT (Downtown Line) is about 4 minutes on foot. Raffles Place MRT (North South and East West Lines) and Telok Ayer MRT (Downtown Line) are each about 6 minutes away, and Shenton Way MRT (Thomson-East Coast Line) is around 7 minutes. Lau Pa Sat, a national monument, is right next to Centre 1 and is the obvious lunch stop. Neighbours include One Raffles Quay and Marina Bay Financial Centre. The Marina Bay waterfront is about 10 minutes away.
