About The Hope Centre
The Hope Centre is the registered strata name for the building at 231 Outram Road, Singapore 169040, in postal District 3 (Tiong Bahru, Queenstown, Alexandra). Its management corporation, MCST 1743, was constituted on 27 February 1993. The building is a compact, drum-shaped block on the Tiong Bahru side of Outram Road. The original developer, architect and tenure could not be verified.
Today the building is a hotel, not an office or community centre. It was fitted out as the boutique Wangz Hotel, which opened in 2010. The property has since been rebranded D'Hotel Singapore, managed by The Ascott Limited, and hotel booking sites were still taking reservations for it in 2026. Anyone looking for The Hope Centre by name is unlikely to find a sign for it on site.
Interesting facts
Wangz Hotel was the third boutique hotel to arrive in Tiong Bahru in four years, after Link Hotel (2007) and Hotel Nostalgia (2009). A BiblioAsia article said the trio gave the area the feel of a boutique hotel enclave.
The round, barrel-like form makes it one of the easiest buildings to pick out on Outram Road. Hotel listings mention a rooftop bar.
Outram Road was named in 1858 after Lieutenant-General James Outram. It was previously part of River Valley Road.
Across the estate behind it, 20 blocks of 1930s Singapore Improvement Trust flats were conserved in 2003.

Outram Park interchange (East-West, North East and Thomson-East Coast lines) is about 15 minutes' walk. Tiong Bahru MRT (East-West Line) and Havelock MRT (Thomson-East Coast Line) are each roughly ten minutes away. Tiong Bahru Market and hawker centre on Seng Poh Road, the cafes of Eng Hoon Street and Yong Siak Street, and the Singapore General Hospital campus are all within walking distance.
