Interesting facts

  • The condominium is named after the Imperial Hotel, which stood on this site. The hotel opened in 1971 as the Oberoi Imperial, a 12-storey building with 564 rooms.

  • In 1977 the hotel was sold to the Hong Kong-based Hind Group for $37.5 million, and the Oberoi name was dropped.

  • The Hind Group announced plans to redevelop the hotel site for housing in 1997. CapitaLand later acquired the land and launched The Imperial in 2003.

  • According to the National Heritage Board, the hotel's early guests included the King of Tonga, for whom special bedding had to be arranged.

Fort Canning station on the Downtown Line is about 300 metres away, around 5 minutes on foot. Dhoby Ghaut interchange (North-South, North East and Circle lines) is under 10 minutes. Fort Canning Park is across River Valley Road. UE Square, Mohamed Sultan Road and Robertson Quay provide dining within a few minutes' walk. Heritage sites close by include the Sri Thendayuthapani Temple on Tank Road and the Chesed-El Synagogue on Oxley Rise, a national monument built in 1905. River Valley Primary School is about 700 metres away.
