About UIC Building / V on Shenton

UIC Building and V on Shenton form a single mixed-use development at 5 Shenton Way, Singapore 068808, in District 1. It has two towers on a shared podium: a 23-storey office tower that keeps the UIC Building name, and a 54-storey residential tower called V on Shenton with 510 apartments. The project was completed in 2017 on a 99-year leasehold site. It was developed by United Industrial Corporation, now Singapore Land Group, and designed by Ben van Berkel of Dutch practice UNStudio with local firm Architects 61.

Singapore Land Group retained the office tower as an investment and lists it with about 280,000 sq ft of net lettable area and floor plates of around 20,000 sq ft. The apartments were sold individually. The complex has shops and food outlets at the lower levels, close to 590 parking spaces and a Green Mark Platinum rating.

Interesting facts

  • The original UIC Building on this site was completed in 1973. At 152 m and 40 storeys it was Singapore's tallest building for about a year, until UOB Plaza Two was finished in 1974.

  • The first tower was designed by Chan Kui Chuan of Singapore Associate Architects. It was demolished in 2013 to make way for the present development.

  • The residential tower rises to about 237 m, well above the 152 m of the tower it replaced.

  • Both towers are wrapped in a pattern of angled hexagonal facade panels, and the residential tower is broken up by sky gardens part of the way up.

Shenton Way MRT (Thomson-East Coast Line) is next to the development, and the owner describes a direct connection to the station. Tanjong Pagar MRT (East-West Line) and Downtown MRT (Downtown Line) are each about five to seven minutes' walk. Neighbours include OUE Downtown, SGX Centre, One Shenton and Asia Square. Lau Pa Sat is roughly five minutes away on foot and Amoy Street Food Centre about eight. Marina Bay's waterfront promenade is around ten minutes' walk.
