Ang Mo Kio Primary School: part of the town’s early history

Ang Mo Kio Primary School was the first school built in Ang Mo Kio New Town. Its first Primary One pupils initially attended lessons at Dorset Primary School before moving into the new premises at 22 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 in April 1978. Pupils and teachers from Jalan Kayu Primary School, which closed that year, also joined the school.

The school’s history reflects the changing needs of the estate. In November 1992, it moved to premises at Ang Mo Kio Street 21 formerly occupied by Ai Tong School. In January 2002, it merged with Kebun Baru Primary School, retaining the Ang Mo Kio Primary name. A further relocation followed that May.

Campus reconstruction began in 2010 and was completed in 2012. The improved campus included an indoor sports hall, a classroom block, refreshed library facilities and additional learning-support spaces. Single-session schooling began on 2 January 2013.

These changes form part of a continuing effort to provide space for academic learning, physical education, music and the arts. For current contact details, school notices and visiting arrangements, readers should refer to the school’s official website.
