How do I get rid of a mattress or sofa in a condo?
General guidance for homes in Singapore. In a condo or other strata building, common property is for the management office; in an HDB flat, your Town Council.
Ask your management office first, since many estates have a bulky-item arrangement with their waste collector. Otherwise NEA's route for private estates is the estate's public waste collector, for a fee, or any licensed collector.
Check first
- Does your estate have a bulky waste area or collection day?
- Is the item usable? Charities and second-hand dealers take good furniture.
- Is it actually an appliance? Fridges and washing machines go free via the e-waste scheme instead.
What you can try
- Check with management for the estate's arrangement and any fee.
- For appliances, book ALBA's free doorstep collection rather than paying a bulky-waste fee.
- Do not leave items in the corridor, lift lobby or beside the bin centre; that is obstruction and usually breaches the by-laws.
- For a renovation clear-out, the contractor removes the debris; it never goes down the chute.

- Anyone suggests leaving it by the roadside or a common area.

When to hire someone
For a whole-house clear-out, a licensed waste collector or a disposal company; agree the price and what is included first.
Ask before you book:
- Are you licensed by NEA as a general waste collector?
- What is the total price for the listed items, including labour from my floor?
