Disposal and recycling · Can wait
What belongs in your condo recycling bin?
General guidance for Singapore condo residents. Follow current official advice and confirm arrangements for your own building.

Read the bin label first
Mixed recycling commonly accepts paper, plastic, glass and metal together, but your estate may use separate bins or a designated recycling chute. Read its labels and ask management when the arrangement is unclear. Do not put ordinary recyclables into a chute simply because it is nearby.
Empty and rinse when needed
NEA advises separating recyclables from rubbish, removing food and liquid residue and rinsing when needed. Let wet containers dry before placing them alongside paper. Flatten clean cardboard to save space. Food and liquid contaminate other materials; heavily soiled packaging should not be treated as clean recycling.
Keep separate collection streams separate
Batteries, power banks, electronics and light bulbs need the appropriate e-waste collection route. Furniture and other bulky items need their own disposal arrangements. Keep the existing Estate.sg e-waste and bulky-disposal answers handy. For uncertain materials such as broken glass, ceramics or special packaging, use the current official item lookup rather than relying on a recycling symbol.
Check the drink-container deposit mark
NEA's consumer guidance records full implementation of the Beverage Container Return Scheme from 1 October 2026. Eligible plastic and metal drink containers carry the deposit mark. Return them empty and uncrushed, with the barcode intact, at an eligible return point for the ten-cent refund. Glass packaging is outside this scheme. A container without the mark is not eligible for that refund.
Make the downstairs trip manageable
Keep a small separate collection box or reusable bag at home. Follow the estate's bagging and collection instructions; they can differ. If a bin is full or damaged, report the exact location and ask where to take the materials. Do not leave a pile that blocks access or reach into a shared bin to retrieve sharp items.
