Peng Kang to Jurong West

Boon Lay and Jurong West were once known together as Peng Kang, from the Hokkien for processing gambier. HDB describes swamps, low hills and thick jungle, filled in during the 1960s. Taman Jurong’s Neighbourhood I was one of the first housing estates built for the industrial town, with some 10,000 flats by 1975, and estates such as Boon Lay, Taman Jurong and Hong Kah formed Jurong West Town in the 1970s. On 1 May 1982 JTC’s housing estates here passed to HDB.

Boon Lay station opened on 6 July 1990 as the western end of the East–West Line, Jurong Point followed in 1995, and the extension to Pioneer and Joo Koon opened on 27 February 2009.

What the planning area covers

URA’s nine subzones are Boon Lay Place, Chin Bee, Hong Kah, Jurong West Central, Kian Teck, Safti, Taman Jurong, Wenya and Yunnan. Lakeside station and the condominiums around Jurong Lake are in Taman Jurong, so they belong here rather than to Jurong East. Boon Lay proper — the former Jurong Bird Park — is a planning area of its own, and NTU is outside the boundary too.

New launches and land sales

  • Lucerne Grand — City Developments Limited, 570 units in five towers on Lakeside Drive, linked to Lakeside station; previewed from 18 September 2026, with bookings from 3 October 2026. URA awarded the site on 9 June 2025 to CDL Polaris Properties Pte. Ltd. and CDL Polaris Commercial Pte. Ltd., on a 99-year lease.

Getting around

Lakeside, Boon Lay and Pioneer are on the East–West Line. The Jurong Region Line’s first stage, which LTA gives as 2028, makes Boon Lay an interchange and adds stations through Jurong West.

Exceltec Property Management (2), Knight Frank Property & Facilities Management (2), Newman SRE (2) manage the most developments inside the boundary. About a quarter of the developments here have no managing agent on record — many are small blocks run by their own council. Each building page lists its own office contact.
