A fishing port and an LRT town

The name comes from Lorong Sengkang, a road off Lorong Buangkok; in Chinese it means “prosperous harbour”. The area was once Kangkar, “foot of the port”, a fishing port on Sungei Serangoon, surrounded by rubber, pepper and pineapple plantations.

Sengkang New Town was planned with its own light rail from the start — NLB calls it the first LRT town — around the theme “Town for the Seafarer” Its neighbourhoods carry names such as Compassvale, Anchorvale and Rivervale. Compass Point opened in 2002 and The Seletar Mall in 2015.

What the planning area covers

URA’s seven subzones are Anchorvale, Compassvale, Fernvale, Lorong Halus North, Rivervale, Sengkang Town Centre and Sengkang West. Compass One, Sengkang General Hospital, The Seletar Mall and Sengkang Riverside Park are inside; Hougang Mall and Seletar Airport are not.

Recent developments

No private project has launched inside the boundary since 2022, and no government land sale site here is on URA’s lists. The newest registered developments are Parc Greenwich, Parc Botannia and Rivercove Residences; Sengkang Grand Residences, was launched by City Developments Limited in November 2019.

Getting around

Sengkang and Buangkok are on the North East Line. The Sengkang LRT’s two loops serve stations such as Compassvale, Rumbia, Bakau, Kangkar, Ranggung, Cheng Lim, Farmway, Fernvale, Layar and Renjong.

Who manages the buildings here

Ocean IFM (3) manage the most developments inside the boundary. About a third of the developments here have no managing agent on record — many are small blocks run by their own council. Each building page lists its own office contact.
